Herbal Medicine has always been an integral part of many health Care systems around the world.

chinese herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is a system of medicine that has been used in China for thousands of years. It is based on the belief that health is the result of the balance of two opposing forces, yin and yang. When these forces are out of balance, illness can arise. CHM uses herbs to help restore balance and promote health.

Thousands of herbs are used in CHM, each with their own combination of flavors and natures, giving them a unique therapeutic action within the body. CHM is a synergistic medicine. Unlike the common Western herbalism practice of supplementing with a single herb, CHM often combines multiple herbs to help guide a therapeutic action, similar to the various instruments that make up a symphony. As with the harmony created by the instruments in a symphony, each herb in a formula has a vital role to play, whether it is by leading the therapeutic action, or by supporting and guiding the lead players.

Throughout history, CHM has been used to treat nearly every health complaint, such as:

  • digestive issues

  • pain and inflammation

  • mental-emotional complaints

  • insomnia

  • skin problems

  • menstrual disorders, infertility (male and female), menopause

  • headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, brain fog

  • and so much more!

PreparatioN

Herbal formulas are tailored to each patient’s specific needs. They are made to order to address the patient’s unique presentation and set of symptoms.

Most commonly, I prescribe herbs in granule form, which, when stirred into warm water, makes an herbal drink. Aside from being being very effective, granule herbs are easy, cost-effective, convenient, and low-maintenance.

The second, less common form of herbal medicine I prescribe is as a bundle of the dried bulk herbs, to be cooked up at home by the patient or decocted by the Root & Branch Pharmacy. The resulting liquid is then drunk by the patient. Although this can be a more lengthy process, some people prefer the ability to see, feel, and smell the herbs that have been selected for their healing journey.

Additionally, there are other forms of herbal medicine that I may prescribe, such as:

  • tablets

  • tea pills

  • topicals

  • patches.

The only way the herbs are going to be successful is if the patient actually takes them. Therefore, depending on your unique presentation, life situation, and personal desires, we will put together a plan that works best for YOU!
